After a long day, a tired Svetlana returned to her room. Svetlana couldn’t remember when she was so tired from working. She reached into the cupboard and fetched a purple bottle. When she uncorked the bottle, a purple smoke emanated from it. The smoke formed into the shape of a muscular, bald man; or at least, his upper body. Bellow his waistline, the man’s body dissolved into a tail of smoke that led back to the bottle. Also, the man had purple skin, which completed his strange appearance.
“Welcome back, mistress! How was your day?” the genie asked.
“Terrible, Gregorios!” Svetlana answered. “Since the event with the rubber girl, M. Sprüngli has me work extra hard. I wish I could finally get back at her!”
“You know I want to get back at Martha too for what she did for me. And I offered to grant you any wish to archive this goal. But you have to be more precise with your wish, Mistress!”
“Right. And I already have an idea. At the moment, I need relief from working. Thus, I brought this:” Svetlana produced a mousetrap she had brought from work. Inside the mousetrap was a mouse. “Gregorios, I wish that you turn this mouse into a maid. Give her all the knowledge she needs to do the job. But don’t make her too bright or courageous. I want to keep her under my control.”
“Your wish is my command!” Gregorios answered and blinked. At once the mouse grew. Her body took more and more of the shape of a girl. Finally, a young woman, clad in a maid’s uniform was standing in the room. Still, her appearance was quite strange: Her nose was long and pointy, and her ears were big and had the shape of mouse ears.
“Whhh… where am I?” asked the mouse girl.
“Calm down! I’m Svetlana, your friend. You are at a hotel where you work as a maid. If you want, I will show you what you have to do.”
“Th… That would be good.” the mouse girl asked, unsure what was awaiting her.
Martha was on the way back from her shift. That late in the evening, the hotel lobby was basically deserted. Martha was just about to turn into smoke when she saw Sami’s lamp standing next to hers. As far as she remembered, Sami hadn’t been out of the lamp since he was summoned by her friend Stefania several months ago. Martha decided to give her fellow genie the chance to get out and rubbed the lamp.
“Hello Martha!” Sami greeted her after he materialized. “How may I help you?”
“Don’t worry, Sami. I’m not here because I need help. I’m here to give you the chance to get out of the lamp for a while.” Martha answered. “I know that you can’t stay outside for very long, maybe one hour tops, but it’s better than nothing, right?”
“Yeah, thank you. But where can I go without being noticed?” Sami answered.
“We can go to the staff’s coffee kitchen. At this hour nobody will be there.” Martha proposed.
“Sound’s good!” With these words, Sami followed Martha out of the lobby.
