Description

A few hours later, Amelia and Martha walked through the center of town. When returning from her shift to Babette's flat, Martha ran into Amelia. Since both hadn't spent much time together for quite awhile, they decided to go on a shopping spree in town. On their way, Martha told Amelia what happened today: how her brother was arriving this morning, how Babette wished to switch places with her and how she agreed.

"I see!" Amelia said. "But could it be that you wanted to appear human to your brother, maybe?"

'That little...'Martha thought. "How did you know?" she asked Amelia.

"I understand you very well. I never told David that I was a mouse to begin with. He must never know. And I never want to become one again. My second experience with being a mouse was more than enough for me." Amelia sounded very gloomy.

Martha decided to change the topic. "Tell me, Amelia. How are you doing since you quit the hotel?"

"I go to an evening school now. In a few months, I will graduate and then, I will hopefully find a better job than a maid in a hotel. It's just... I don't have much money to spare." Amelia told Martha.

Martha nodded. Amelia had wished for enough money to finance her studies and pay her living costs. But she didn't give her much more. She knew that simply creating too much money could cause many problems. Humans tended to get greedy and even whole states could get into trouble. Still she felt a bit bad for her friend.

"Look Martha! What a beautiful jacket!" Amelia was admiring a jacket in one of the shop's windows. "But, 240 Franken! No, I can't afford that."

"Let's go inside. You can at least try it on." Martha proposed. Amelia agreed and both girls entered the shop.

About 20 Minutes later, Martha and Amelia were back on the street but without the jacket. "It really looked good on me, but alas, I can't afford it." Amelia complained.

"Maybe you can't afford the jacket, but I can help you." Since Martha had switched places with Babette, she was a free genie - no longer bound to grant any wishes and in complete control of her powers - at least, that was the theory. Now it was time to put the theory to the test. Martha blinked and suddenly Amelia was wearing the jacket.

Amelia was surprised. "Martha... Why...? Thank you very much."

"Think nothing of it! Your my friend and I wanted to give you a present." Martha said.

Suddenly, they heard the screaming of brakes. Both girls turned their hands and saw a truck sliding with blocked wheels. The reason for the abrupt maneuver was a mother with her baby buggy crossing the street. Quickly, Martha realized that an accident was unavoidable. The woman just managed to jump back but the truck hit the buggy with full force, sending it flying through the air.
That same moment, Martha blinked and a bundle appeared in her arms. It was the baby, completely unharmed.
With a terrible noise, the buggy slammed into the ground, heavily damaged. The mother collapsed on the street. Moments later, the first helpers rushed to aid the woman and to see if the child survived.
Martha looked at the smiling face of the baby. The little one hadn't even realized what had happened. Quickly, she blinked again and the baby disappeared from her arms.

"He's unhurt! It's a miracle!" A man shouted, who had rushed to look after the buggy. Quickly, a crowd was forming.

Martha turned her head. She and Amelia walked away.
"That was great! You saved his life." Amelia said. "But, won't they become suspicious if he doesn't have any injury?"

"I'm not going to hurt him!" Martha replied angrily. "The humans already found an answer. I'm sure that tomorrow we will read in the newspapers that the boy miraculously survived the crash and that's about it." Inside, Martha felt very proud. Her unlimited control of her genie powers allowed her to save a child's life. She wondered what else she could do as a free genie. But for now, she wanted to get away from all these humans. Strangely, Martha felt uneasy around them. "Let's go, my work is done here."

Some time later, Amelia and Martha sat in a cafe in town. The waitress had just delivered the drinks. Amelia started the conversation: "Have you seen David lately?"

Martha nodded. "I did. In fact, I see him quite often, recently. Amelia, he feels really bad since you left him. I often meet him, talk to him and have to console him."

"I'm surprised this jerk even cares for me," was Amelia's sarcastic repsonse.

"Now, you're unjust." Martha replied. "When we returned from Paris, his uncle urged David to break up with you. But he defended you against his uncle. He never wanted to kill his girlfriend. It's not like he betrayed you."

"How could you betray me?" suddenly a woman shouted. Amelia and Martha turned her heads to look for the woman. She was young, maybe 18 years old and really cute, though her looks were nothing extraordinary. "How could you betray me with that broad?"

The woman she was referring to was only one or two years older. But in comparison, she had a very womanly body. It was obvious that some plastic surgeon had his hands at play. "You couldn't give Marcel what he was looking for, Sylvia. I did!" she said.

Just to confirm his new girlfriend, Marcel wrapped his arms around her waist and drew her hips closer to his. "You know what I want, Susanne."

"Bleh! I'm getting sick." Sylvia replied. "You know what, Marcel? If that is what you are looking for in a woman, you can have all the stupid bunnies you want. I'm done with you!" Sylvia turned and walked away. Behind her back, Susanne and Marcel snickered.

While most of the other patrons eventually turned away, Amelia and Martha still watched the scene. "Are you going to do something about them?" Amelia asked.

"She gave me a cue, didn't she?" Martha wickedly smiled. ""What do you think?"

"That's only for you to decide. If you like, you can transform them. I can't stop you and I won't. It's your desicion but you will have to live with it." Amelia took a sip from her cup.

Martha nodded. "But not here." Martha blinked and the money to settle their account appeared on the tables. Then Martha and Amelia rose up and followed the couple at a distance. When they arrived a park and were sure nobody was watching them, Marcel and Susanne began to kiss passionately. Since nobody else was around, Martha decided to strike. She blinked and unleashed her magic on the couple. While Amelia watched them change, Martha turned away. She didn't have to watch. Instead, she simply felt her magic soften their bodies and molding them into their new forms. Soon, her magic had done its work. The two humans no longer existed. The two new rabbits hopped away under the nearest bushes.

"Shall I do the same to David?" Martha asked. "Since he's a jerk too?"

"NO! Don't you dare. David is much better than them!" Amelia begged.

"You see it was just a big misunderstanding." Martha put a smile on her face. "Best you talk to David and solve your differences."

"I'll talk to him." Amelia promised. "I just need a bit more time. But I'll talk to him. I promise."

Not a fan of Martha's actions here. She doesn't know the full story. Maybe Marcel and his new girlfriend are jerks, maybe they aren't. She just made a snap decision that the crying girl must have been wronged. I hope something bad happens that Martha learns a lesson from this. Amelia was and remains a wild animal, regardless of how nice she looks in the jacket.
