The next day, Adam Pearce was awoken by a knock on the door: “Police! Open immediately. We have a search warrant!”

Immediately, Adam Pearce got up. He reached for the genie lamp and rubbed it. An instant later, Martha appeared next to him. “Martha, I need your help you must protect me from the police.”

“Is that your last wish? That the police won’t arrest you?” Martha asked.

That moment the voice behind the door said: “Alright! Open the door, Monsieur Sprüngli!”

Adam Pearce started to panic. “Yes! I wish that the police wouldn’t arrest me!”

“Your wish is granted!” Martha said and blinked. Instantly, Adam’s body shrunk down as he was encased in a crystal ball, just as Martha had been earlier. Martha grabbed the ball and her own lamp. That moment, the door was unlocked. Martha blinked herself away before M. Sprüngli and the police entered the now-empty room.


A few hours later, Martha was at her workstation at the reception desk. Suddenly, a woman in a purple business suit approached her. It was Christine.

“What did you do to Adam!” the other genie asked Martha, aggressively. “Give him back to me!”

“So you will keep me prisoner again? No, thanks!” Martha replied.

“Listen, all I want is to have him back.” Christine had a very sad look on her face.

“If I give him back to you, will you promise that you will never appear here again? And that you will leave me alone, forever?” Martha insisted.

“I will. I swear. In fact, I will keep him locked inside my lamp so he can never go after another skirt or so no other woman can snatch him from me.” Christine answered.

“Alright, here you have him.” Martha took the crystal ball from under the front desk and passed it to Christine. Martha felt quite unsure but she hoped Christine was keeping her promise.

“Thank you very much. I’ll never bother you again. And neither will Adam.” Christine blinked. She and the crystal ball disappeared from the lobby.
