Quantum Adrenaline - Part 3

Later that day, the band returned from the press conference. There was already a big crowd waiting at the entrance of the hotel. Diana and Beth gave some autographs while two police men cleared the path to the entrance. Martha was walking behind them. When the girls had entered the hotel, the police hurried to block the entrance before the fans stormed the hotel.

In the hotel lobby, Tara was greeted by a young man about her age: “Hey Tara. How are you doing?”

“Keegan? We’re doing fine. We just returned from our first concert.” Tara replied.

“I read about it in the newspaper.” Suddenly, Keegan put on a sad face. “Did you hear something about Seth and Dean? Anything new from the police?”

Tara was perplexed. “What do you mean?”

“Don’t you remember? Dean and Seth disappeared two days ago.” Keegan was very upset now.

Suddenly, Tara understood. When Martha changed them into the girl band ‘Quantum Adrenaline’, she must have changed reality in such a way that Seth and Dean simply disappeared. “Listen Keegan… I know where they are. But it will be quite a surprise. How about you come to our suite and I’ll explain.”

“Right now?” Keegan was taken by surprise.

“Of course, right now. Just come along.”

Keegan didn’t really understand what happened when he entered the loft together with the new girl band ‘Quantum Adrenaline’.


A few moments later, Keegan was sitting on a sofa in one of the hotel’s suites. Next to him sat Beth and Diana, while Martha and Tara sat on armchairs vis-à-vis. “So where are Seth and Dean?” he asked.

“Right now, they are sitting next to you.” Tara laughed.

Keegan was out of his mind. “You must be crazy. How can these two girls be my friends Dean and Seth?”

“You see Martha here? She’s a genie. We wished we were as successful as ‘Static Angel’ and –poof– Seth and Dean became girls and we became the new girl band “Quantum Adrenaline”.

Keegan was about to jump up and run for the door when Beth took his arm and looked him right in the face. “Look at me. Don’t you recognize me ?”

Keegan looked sharply into Beth’s eyes. Somehow, they were familiar. Dean couldn’t grasp it, when suddenly he realized: “These are Seth’s eyes. You are Seth! It’s true!”

“We told you that it’s true.” All three girls confirmed in unison.

“Do you have some wishes left?” Keegan asked.

“Two actually. Do you want to join us?” Diana rose from the sofa and took the lamp from a sideboard.

“I’d love to be with you. Especially since you are all girls now.” There was an innuendo in Keegan’s voice that Diana didn’t miss.

“Alright Martha!” She said. “I wish that Keegan would become the newest member of our all-girl group.”

Martha was happy. This wish would not only reunite Keegan with his friends, it would also allow her to escape her role of the group manager. She blinked and her magic washed over Keegan. A few seconds later, another woman was standing in Keegan’s place. She was wearing a professional dress with a pencil skirt and heels similar to Martha’s.

Bedazzled, the new woman looked around. “What happened?”

“You are now known by the name of Allison. You are a member of Quantum Adrenaline too and you are also the band’s manager.” Martha explained.

“And what about you, Martha?” Tara asked.

“I’m back to being the genie I was before. Don’t get me wrong. You are nice people and if the situation was different, I’d love to go on tour with you. But I have to sort out some personal issues first.”

“I see. It’s better this way. Anyway, thank you for everything.” Allison answered. “We have our next concert in two days in Freiburg in Germany. How about we give you some free tickets and backstage passes? How many do you want?”

Martha though for a moment. ”That would be three or four tickets. But I have to ask some friends first.”

“Sure thing. Just tell us what you need later.” Allison replied.

Martha bid the band goodbye and left the room. First, she headed for the reception desk, where she met David. She asked if he and Amelia would like to come to the concert in two days. David quickly agreed. Next, Martha went to the lobby. Despite what she saw there earlier, she wanted at least to talk to Sami. Maybe he could explain what was going on. And, in worst case scenario, she would know that it was over.
When Martha arrived in the lobby, she was shocked again. Sami’s lamp was gone. Martha couldn’t grasp what had happened. She thought of every possible explanation, especially those that wouldn’t confirm Sami’s betrayal. But eventually, Martha came to the conclusion that the most likely explanation was that the other genie had taken Sami’s lamp with her.
