Rubber and Smoke - Part 6

“There’s this boy Conrad. He’s in my class and has a crush on me!” Carrie explained.
“Is he cute?” Martha asked.

“NO!!! He’s creepy!” Carrie explained. “And now, he’s running around and telling all our classmates that we have super powers. Right now, he’s left to go to his room to get his camera. He says he has photos. Mistress, we can’t let this happen!”

“I see what you mean! And I wouldn’t be happy if everybody knew that there’s a genie around. Here is my second wish: I wish that you change the photos in his camera in such a way that they show the two of us just doing normal things.”

“Wish granted!” Carrie said and blinked. “But he still remembers what he saw.”

“I know…” Martha said and hesitated. She could easily use her last wish to change places with Carrie for good. Besides, with the photos changed, nobody would belief him. And once Carrie was trapped in her lamp, she herself would be free.
But on the other hand, Conrad knew that Carrie was a genie. And he could easily become her next master. What if Conrad would use a wish on her? Maybe it was better to fulfill Carrie's demand. She just hoped that her plan wouldn’t count as “messing with a mortals mind”.

“I also wish that you would change Conrad’s memories in such a way that it conforms to the photos in the camera.”

“Your wish is granted!” Carrie said and blinked. “Wow, now I feel relived. What shall we do now, Mistress?” Before Martha could answer, the brown mist streamed out of the lamp and towards Carrie.

“I guess we won’t see each other soon!” Martha said. “I’m no longer your mistress.”

“What you do meaaaa……” Carrie asked, but her question turned into a scream when lamp began to pull her in again. Carrie grasped at a palm tree while the tugging became stronger. “Help me, Martha! I don’t want to go in there again!”

“That’s what all genies have to go through. And you wished to be a genie.” Martha explained. “Cheer up! In a few hours, you’ll be human again!”

That moment, Carrie lost her grip. “Nooooo……” she yelled while she was sucked into the lamp. Two seconds later, it was over and Martha was alone again.

“That’s her!” Martha suddenly heard Svetlana’s voice. “She took the money!” The maid was followed by M. Sprüngli and two policemen.

“Miss, you are hereby under arrest!” a police man declared and placed his hand on Martha’s shoulder.
