A genie vacation - Part 8

Amy returned to the group holding Martha’s lamp. She was very happy.

“Is it only me or does seeing Amy that way give you the creeps too?” Annie asked.

“I have a really bad feeling. We should check out what happened!” Bella proposed. The group headed back the way Amy came. It didn’t take long until they saw the now-fat Franny sitting on a bank.

"Franny, oh my" said Bella as she walked up to her old friend.

Franny looked at Bella. Her eyes were red from crying. "Look what she did to me!" Then she turned away in shame.

"Franny, please, who did this to you?" asked Bella.

"She! This evil genie!" Franny pointed at Martha.

"Hold it, Franny, Martha is not evil, she has to grant the wish of whoever holds her lamp" said Carrie, who got right in Franny's face.

"So it's Amy's fault?" Franny said. “She wished that I wasn't competition for her in the head cheerleader election."

"Yeah but when you think about it, Franny, Martha granted the wish in a harmless way" said Carrie, "you could've wound up something worse than just fat... like a cockroach, a sardine, a mushroom, a statue made of glass, just to name a few."

Franny stared at Carrie in panic! She did not say another word.

"Maybe we should leave her like this?" Annie proposed."After all she did to us."

"It is tempting" says Grace as Max and Alex nodded, "Bella, the choice is yours" says Carrie, "whatever you decide I'll go with."

Bella looked at Franny. "We got to help Franny, she is... was my friend."

"But how can we do that?" Max said. "I doubt that science can help us here."

"Couldn't Alex make Franny skinny again?" Bella proposed.

"No, Martha said that I couldn't undo any of the wishes she grants cause I'm not as powerful as she is and I can only use my full powers with a wish" Alex explained.

“Then we find Amy and force her to wish Franny back to normal" Carrie concluded.


It didn't take long to find Amy. She was at a water dispenser having a drink. "Amy, we need to talk" said Carrie.

"About what should I talk aboyut to the likes of you?" Amy replied in an arrogant tone.

"Using Martha to fatten Franny so you can win the cheerleader election" said Carrie.

"Oh really? And what are you going to do about it?" Amy taunted Carrie.

Carrie smiles and nodded as Alex and Bella hid behind a building. "Alex, I wish that Amy was a parrot that could still talk, would still retain her mind and couldn't fly away" Bella wished.

Alex blinked. Amy disappeared in a glow. Soon she was a parrot struggling to stay in mid-air. Eventually, the bird glided to the ground.

"Hey. Make me normal again!" The parrot protested.

"Oh no, not until you wish Franny back to normal" Carrie picked the parrot, while Bella rubbed the lamp and summoned Martha.

Amy thought for a moment. She could use her last wish to make Martha turn her back to normal. But then the others would simply turn her into a parrot again and Amy would have no more wishes left. "Alright, I'll do it: Martha, I wish that you make Franny normal-looking again."

Martha blinked and Franny became normal again.

"Cool. Mhhh... Can I keep her as a pet?" Franny pointed to the parrot.

"Sorry Franny, a deal is a deal" Carrie puts Amy back in her clothes.

Then Bella looked at Alex “I wish that Amy was back to normal" Alex smirks and soon Amy is back to normal.

"You are really freaks!" Amy shouted and ran.

"Wow, so that's how it feels" said Bella as Alex pats her on the back, "It's okay Bella" she said. "Yeah, sticks and stones may break our bones but words can never hurt us" said Carrie.

“I guess you are right.” Bella laughed as the other started to laugh again.


The rest of the week, Martha spent more time with her new friends but no one made another wish. Also, Amy and Franny kept away from them. Max invited Grace on a date. It turned out better than expected though Grace decided to wait two more dates before making a decision. Finally, the last day came and Martha was about to return to her lamp to be sent home.

“I guess that’s it, Carrie. I totally enjoyed this last week. And I’m happy that Alex and Bella got used to their new lives so well.” Martha said.

“Yeah, they definitely benefited from their wishes.” Carrie said. “Franny and Amy didn’t seem to learn from it.”

“Actually, I’m disappointed with Amy. When I met her last year, she was a very nice person. And now, she has become a snooty princess. I'm just disappointed." Martha explained.

"People change, Martha, for better or worse, it's sad but it's a fact" Carrie replied. At least Max Costner is much friendlier now. Even Grace admitted that.”

“Oh yeah. You have to write me how it goes with them. And if you or your friends want to come to Switzerland, I can arrange something for you. You are definitely welcome.” Martha offered.

“I’ll tell them. If we can afford the flight, we will come for sure.” Carrie replied.

For a moment both stood silently. It hurt them both that Martha was about to return home. Martha was the first to speak. “Ok, it’s already hard enough. Take care of yourself, Carrie. I’ll contact you once I arrive home. We’ll meet again one day.”

“We will!” Carrie and Martha embraced. Then Martha returned to her lamp. Carrie put the lamp in a parcel which she would send back to Switzerland the next day.
