Genie Con 2011 - Part 5

“May all contestants please come to the stage area!” the loudspeaker announced.

“It’s time to go there.” Martha took the hand of a reluctant Sami and dragged him to the stage.

There were three other contestants already waiting: One young man was dressed up as a blue genie that was nearly bald, except for his black pony tail. He was holding a fake golden lamp. The other genies were female: A girl with an intensive tan and fake violet hair. She was wearing red harem pants and a skimpy red bra. The other genie was a blond girl in the classic, pink and red harem attire. She had a red cap on her head and was holding a purple bottle in her hand. Unlike the other female genie, she was a bit chubby. A game master was welcoming Martha. “We’ll let you enter the stage from the backstage area and I’ll introduce you. This way please.” He led all contestants through a door into the backstage area. Backstage, he called the contestants to the stage one after the other. Martha and the chubby girl were the last to enter the stage. The girl gave Martha an envious look. “Is something wrong?” Martha asked.

“Come on! You and that Shantae girl look so much better than I. One of you will definitely win.” The girl complained.

“What are you talking about? I don’t have the body of a mannequin either.” Martha replies. “Besides: It’s for the best costume isn’t it?”

“True! My costume is “Jeanie” from the TV series. But my name is Katrin. And you are?” the girl asked.

“I’m Martha the genie of the lamp. I’m not from a comic or series or such…”

“Ah, an original character. Very, eh…, original.” Katrin added. “I guess I better step back from the contest.”

‘Why does she have so less self-confidence?’ Martha wondered. Then she made a decision: “Listen, rub my lamp and make a wish. It will help you in the contest.”

Eagerly, Katrin took the lamp and rubbed it. Before Martha could introduce herself, the girl already stated her wish: “I wish that I’m the most authentic genie, so I will win the contest.”

“Your wish is granted.” The wording gave Martha no other chance than to transform the girl into a genie. The girl’s legs turned into pink smoke and streamed into her bottle. Her hips however were too big to fit in easily and so, the girl pushed hard until she disappeared with an audible PLÖP! “Now for the second part of your wish.” Martha uncorked the bottle.

The girl reappeared. “What did you do to me?!?”

“I granted your wish and you wished to be the most authentic genie that will win the contest. And so, I turned you into a genie.” Martha explained.

“That’s not what I meant. What am I supposed to do now?” The girl was near panic.

“First, you should go out there and win the contest. That was part of your wish too. Then you should get used to your new powers and your new life.” Martha smiled.

“New powers? I can do magic now?” the girl asked.

“You can! You are a genie now.” Martha explained. “But they are very limited unless your master states a wish.”

“Let’s see!” The girl folded her hands and blinked. Suddenly, she lost several pounds as her body turned into a much slimmer shape, just as Barbara Eden looked like in the TV series.

Even Martha was astonished since she didn’t know a genie could do that. That moment, the game host called Martha and Katrin to the stage.


The constest was quickly over. Just as she wished for, Katrin beat the others. Especially Beatrice, the girl dresse up as “Shantae”, was angry. The girl accused Katrin of cheating, but the judges did not listen to her. Also Sami looked a bit disappointed.

“What’s wrong, Sami?” Martha but her arm around his waist.

“It’s strange, but I really hope I would win. Now I feel a bit disappointed.” Sami admitted.

“You had no chance to win. Kartin wished that she would win the contest.” Martha explained. “And to me you are the best genie in the contest.” She hugged him a little bit harder.

Now, also Sami took Martha in his arms. “What happened to her? Wasn’t she a bit more chubby before?”

“Oh, I turned her into a genie. And then she used her own powers to make herself slimmer. I didn’t know genies can to that.”

That moment, Katrin returned from the stage as her body suddenly lost its shape again. Katrin turned into smoke and was sucked back into the lamp again. Quickly Martha grabbed the lamp before someone else noticed anything.

“Did anybody see Katrin?” suddenly a boy of Katrin’s age asked. He was dressed up as a Major of the US Airforce, but it was obviously only a costume.

“She’s over here. Are you her boyfriend?” Martha asked him. The boy confirmed and Martha passed him the lamp.

Reluctantly, the boy took the lamp and uncorked it. Katrin reappeared but her body was back in her original shape. “Greetings Master! I’m Katrin the genie and I’ll grant you three wishes!”

“I know that you are my genie but how did you do that?” The boy asked.

“I’m a real genie now, Tom. And I will grant you three wishes.” Kartin insisted.

“Alright, I’m sure I’ll find three nice wishes for us. Let’s go now!” Tom took Katrin’s hand. Both left the backstage area and returned to the convention.

Before Martha could say a word, Sami addressed her: “Nice way to interpret her wish!”

“She made an ill-worded wish, as most humans do. Now she can learn the importance of wording a wish right. I really hope she will be a better genie than she was as a human.” Martha didn’t intend to, but her voice sounded slightly arrogant. “But how could she change her appearance? I didn’t know genies can to that for themselves?”

“It’s like when you change your clothes magically. Nothing special. There’s only one catch: When she returns to her bottle, she’ll revert to her original form.” Sami explained.

“Mhhh… If genies can change their appearance, maybe we can go out more often.”

„What do you mean? I don’t get it.“ Sami was perplexed.

Martha ran her fingers through Sami’s hair. “I’ll explain that to you on the way back to the hotel.” Sami put a broad smile on his face as both genies left the convention.
