Genie relations - Part 1

This morning, Babette and Martha had duty at the hotel's reception. At the moment, there was nothing to do and so both women began to chat.

"Say Babette, what did I miss at your flat after I left with David?" Martha asked.

"Oh, we had a nice evening with Sami. He's such a polite guy, but a bit reserved. We had to ask him a lot, but eventually he told us about his adventures in time and about the genie community he lived in. And he's such a good-looking guy. Unfortunately, he was not interested in a more intimate encounter. Maybe he's gay?"

"He's not. He's not into humans, just female Genies." Martha replied.

"You're speaking from experience, I assume." Babette asked.

"No. Sami's too good a friend that I would spoil everything with a brief trist." Martha replied. "Do you still have his lamp?"

"No, I gave it back to M. Sprüngli this morning. It's still his." Babette explained. "I also told him that I found it in a pawn shop. Then he called the police. I guess they will have a word with the owner."

"Did you tell him about Svetlana stealing the lamp?" Martha asked

"No, I didn't. I couldn't have told him the story about Amelia, you know?"

"I guess you're right, there. That means Amelia didn't get her job back? What she's doing now?"

"No. She didn't want to work for him now. Amelia will go to night school to get her Matura. She told me that you granted a wish that gave her enough money to concentrate on her studies. Thank you for that." Babette said.
Martha smiled back before Babette continued. "By the way, we moved into a bigger flat as roommates. You should visit us soon. But tell me, what did you do after you left us that evening?"

"I spend the evening with David at his flat. He feels really crushed about being dumped by Amelia."

"Oh really? He nearly crushed Amelia, you know!" Babette snapped back.

"And he feels very sorry about it. I really hope Amelia will give him a second chance. He didn't recognize her as a mouse. And you know the trouble we have with rodents in the hotel business."

"Alright. But Amelia needs some time. A lot of time, actually." Babette replied. "Speak of the devil, here comes David."

"Good morning, ladies. Here's an addition to today's list of guests. This one is very important. Can you arrange a transfer from the hotel?" David passed a list to Babette.

"Ah, Mr. dos Santos' flight will arrive in two and a half hours," the blonde receptionist said. "Is he important enough to send a limo?"

"Yes he is." David replied. "Business man from a big Brazilian company. Lots of money is involved here."

Hearing the name, Martha grabbed the list. "Luca dos Santos?" Martha was very astonished. "Can I go personally and get him from the airport?"

"What's so special about him?" David asked.

"He's my brother!"

David's and Babette's mouths popped open. "I guess that's a good idea. You can go, Martha!" David replied. "Please make sure that he will arrive in style. See you later, girls!"

When David was gone, Babette turned to Martha. "You never told me anything about your family. Why?"

Martha turned red. "It's not that I am on bad terms with them. I simply ... forgot. After I was turned into a genie, I was always trapped inside my lamp. So, I couldn't send them a message. It's strange... when I gained the ability to leave my lamp more freely, my family was hardly on my mind anymore... Maybe because I was adapting to being a genie... Mhh.... I'll talk to Sami about it."

"I see. Anyway, now your family will learn that you are still alive and that you are a genie."

"NO!" Martha was upset. "They must not know that I'm a genie. I'm afraid they won't understand."

"Keep cool, Martha." Babette calmed her friend. "If you don't want your brother to know, you must pretend to be an ordinary woman until he leaves again."

"I know! But I don't have a flat or house. And Luca will surely see how I live." Suddenly, Martha had an idea. "Babette! Would you trade your living space with me? For the next 72 hours?"

"And where shall I stay? Inside your lamp?" Babette asked, upset.

"I... I could turn you into a genie for three days. How's about that? I wouldn't even count it as one of your wishes." Martha proposed.

Babette put a smirk in her face. An idea was forming inside her head. "A genie, you say? And I would have all your abilities?"

Martha nodded.

"I can also leave our lamp on my free will?"

"You can leave the lamp for twelve hours, then you must spend another twelve inside." Martha explained. "And, of course, you will be forced to serve anybody who rubs the lamp."

"And I will turn back to my normal self in three days?"

"If you add the time limit to your wish, yes!" Martha confirmed.

"Alright. Let's do it." Babette went over to the lobby and returned with Martha's lamp. "Martha, I wish that for the next 72 hours, I will be the genie of your lamp!"

Martha blinked and a green smoke poured out of her lamp. It enveloped Babette's body and turned her into a genie. The lamp sucked it's new inhabitant inside.
