Description
When Martha was about to leave the hotel, she spotted two police cars sitting in front. For a second, she decided to not pay any attention. But eventually, her curiosity prevailed. Martha returned to the front desk and asked the receptionist there: “Morning, Babette! Is there a reason for the police cars out there?”
“Morning, Martha! Oh, that!” Babette greeted Martha back. Then she continued in a whisper: “It seems that, tonight, there was a thief in one of our rooms. Some jewelry has been stolen. But don’t tell anybody.”
“Which room?” Martha inquired
“No, Martha! Let the professionals handle this!”
“Please, Babette, the room number?” Martha insisted.
“Mhhhh… Since I can’t stop you anyway, Monsieur Sprüngli and the police are investigating room 157.”
“Thanks, Babette. I owe you one.” Martha replied and dashed off to the elevator.
A few minutes later, Martha rushed through the first floor of the hotel. Suddenly, a police man blocked her way: “Sorry, Miss. The floor is temporarily closed. It’s a crime scene.”
“I work in the hotel. Maybe I can be of assistance?” Martha said.
“Follow me!” The policeman led her to the entrance of the room. “Monsieur Sprüngli, does this woman work for you?” he asked the hotel owner.
M. Sprüngli was surprised. “Martha, what are you doing here? Today is your day off.”
“I know, but when I heard about the robbery, I thought I could be of some help.” Martha answered.
“Do you know something about this, Miss?” a policeman asked.
Martha didn’t reply at once. Instead, she tried to use her genie powers to find any clue, but to her dismay, she realized that she didn’t have her powers anymore. “No, I’m sorry, I don’t know anything about the robbery.” She admitted.
“That’s enough, Martha!” M. Sprüngli interrupted. He grabbed her by the arm and pulled her away from the hotel room. “Thank you for your offer, but please let the professionals take care of it. Enjoy your day off.”
Martha felt the lack of her genie powers. In all the months she had been a genie, they had basically become her second nature. And now, she was really missing them. Slowly she wandered of to the elevator, while M. Sprüngli returned to the investigation.
Martha was back in the lobby. If she hadn’t access to her powers at the moment, maybe Carrie could be of assistance. At least she could ask for three wishes from the new genie. Martha went to the lamp and rubbed it. Beige smoke poured out of the lamp and formed into Carrie’s genie body.
“I’m the genie of the lamp” Carrie introduced herself. “I’m bound to grant you three wishes, and only three.”
