Rubber and smoke - Part 1

Svetlana looked into the mirror while she tied her apron around her waist. Gregorios was still lying in her bed. A few days ago, she was locked inside the hotel’s broom closet by her enemy, Martha. There she had found a strange bottle from which she released the genie Gregorios. Soon, she found out that Gergorios was originally a man who was transformed into a genie by no one else but Martha. Finally, the maid and the genie decided to join forces. Greogios had promised her to grant her any wish necessary to get revenge on the person who caused Gregorios to become a genie. Since it was Martha who twisted Gregory's final wish, Svetlana would finaly get her revenge against her personal enemy.

From the corner of her eyes, Svetlana saw Gregorios stir. “Good morning! Did you sleep well?”

“It was a wonderful night!” Gregorios answered. “And I hope for you too.”

“Oh yes!” Svetlana cooed. “And this day will be even better. Today, we’ll get our revenge on Martha! But I need your help…”


Martha looked at the hoard of pupils gathering in the lobby. The high-school students were so noisy that Martha couldn’t do the check-in with the accompanying teachers. “Could you please be quiet…? Could… could you…? Quiet now!” she tried to get the pupils attention, but to no avail.
Finally, one of the teachers, a woman not even 30 years old, scolded the students in a stern voice: “Be quiet at once! Or I’ll ground you to your hotel rooms for this evening!” The students felt silent.
“Please wait in the lobby while we get the keys to the rooms. We’ll distribute them. And behave!” the teacher ordered. While the students dispersed into the lobby, Martha finished the check-in. Finally, the teachers left to distribute the room keys among the students. Martha moaned. For the next three days, about 30 high school students would stay in the hotel while being on a field-trip to the CERN at Geneva. If the next days would continue like the first 20 minutes did, Martha would need a holiday.


A few hours later, Martha’s shift was over. As expected, it was a really annoying shift, as repeatedly some of the students came to the lobby to ask this and that from her. Martha hadn’t felt this tired since she had been turned into a genie. She was happy to return to her lamp and looked forward to the day off she’d have the next day. As she passed the lobby, she saw three students sitting on a table in the lobby. At least they didn’t disturb the other guests at the moment. However, she overheard a bit of gossiping:

“Did Conrad seriously think you would go with him to the dance?” a brunette girl asked a raven-haired girl. “You didn’t accept, did you?”

“Of course not!!! I wouldn’t go out with him if he was the last boy on earth. I mean, seriously: his greasy hair… and his glasses are so old-school. A real nerd! No way I’ll go out with him!” the black-haired girl answered.

“You’re right. I’m glad that Mike had already asked me…” the other girl replied. Martha had heard enough. She returned to her home, turned into smoke and disappeared into her lamp. What she didn’t know was that the raven-haired schoolgirl had observed the whole scene…
