Family Honor - Prologue
Family Honor
Prologue
The mood in the Whaley family was tense during these days in April 1861. Only one week ago, the rebels of South Carolina had shelled the Union Fort Sumter at Charleston Harbor. One day later, the fort surrendered. On April 15th, President Abraham Lincoln called for 75.000 volunteers to crush the rebellion and to preserve the Union. In many families in the North, the presidents call to arms was the major subject of the daily discussion, also on this evening in the Whaley family in Boston.
How can you sit at home, Jonathan, while our country is thorn apart? asked Elisabeth her 17 years old brother.
